On August 10th, Pack Your Back will be hosting its 4thAnnual Flint School Supply Distribution from 10 - 1 PM at the Mott Community College Event Center. Backpacks and school supplies will be available to students on a first come, first serve basis and students must be present to receive support.
“We want to make sure students in the Flint, Michigan area are able to start off the school year on the right path. By providing these basic resources, we are able to do just that!” - Galen Miller, Executive Director of Pack Your Back. Pack Your Back was created by Central Michigan University students who decided they wanted to be hands on in helping the younger generation succeed. Since the organizations launch, over 25,000 students have received support from the organization in Flint, Michigan and beyond.

Since early 2019, Pack Your Back has been hosting water distributions at the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. Nearly 3,375 families have been able to receive access to clean water due to these water distributions. On August 3rd, Pack Your Back added another resource to the water distributions to make it easier for the residents that have been affected by the ongoing water crisis. Over 250 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students who attended the distribution to allow them to go back to school prepared. As we all know, education is the key to success and if a student doesn’t have the resources needed to be successful, they can’t be. “We want to make getting access to school supplies as easy as possible.” - Galen Miller, Executive Director of Pack Your Back If you are in need of water and school supplies, be sure to attend one of the following events: School Supply Distribution: August 10th@ 10 AM - Mott Community College Water & School Supply Distribution: August 10th@ 11AM - Prince of Peace Pack Your Back would like to thank the Mott Community College Pipeline 2 Promise program for volunteering with the organization. This group of 25+ students assisted the organization in cleaning and organizing the Pack Your Back storage units on August 2nd. The students included in this program represent Carman-Ainsworth Schools, Bentley Schools, and Beecher Schools.
The Pipeline 2 Promise program was created to provide coaching at all levels of k-12 education to foster an environment that educates students on the positive outcomes of postsecondary education. Thank you for all of the help! On July 27th, Pack Your Back distributed 260 backpacks filled with school supplies at the Fresh Flint Festival that took place at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint, Michigan. Josie Born, Assistant Director of Pack Your Back, stated that the event went over well and that it was great to see so many students getting the resources they need to be successful in the classroom. The Fresh Flint Festival is a two-day event filled with fun activities to support Flint residents while promoting fitness and healthy living as a means to mitigate the effects of lead poisoning.
