Pack Your Back announced changes to its water distribution program on Thursday and created a recycling program to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of giving back.
Beginning May 28th, Pack Your Back will begin a slow transition of eliminating the distribution of 16-oz water bottles at water distribution events. At the completion of this transition, Pack Your Back will begin distributing gallon jugs of water at future events to assist with eliminating the pollution of plastic bottles. Understanding that a select number of citizens may only be able to utilize 16-oz bottles, Pack Your Back will always have a limited supply available for those residents.
Pack Your Back and Genusee have joined forces to implement a sustainability program that will cut down on the amount of plastic water bottles that are polluting Flint, Michigan. With the goal of doing good for people and the planet by using design and collaboration, Genusee is transforming recycled water bottles from Flint, MI into eyeglass frames. Residents in Flint, Michigan are encouraged to bring used 16-oz water bottles to Pack Your Back water distributions to be repurposed into Genusee eyeglass frames.
For a limited time, while supplies last, Pack Your Back will be providing residents who recycle one filled trash bag of empty water bottles with a 5-gallon reusable water jug. This jug can be refilled weekly through The Water Box that is located at First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.
Residents will be able to get in on this offer at the following water distributions:
